We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Tony Bramwell, childhood friend and associate of The Beatles.

Strawberry Field's Honorary President, John Lennon's sister Julia Baird said: "Tony was the "man in the know" as he was around for the bulk of the Beatles journey. He will be missed at Beatle Week."

Tony Bramwell was a childhood friend of John, Paul and George, who became Brian Epstein’s right-hand man and later joint head of Apple Records. He was always generous sharing his stories and memories of his time with the Beatles. On the news of his death, many people have shared memories of meeting him and hearing his anedotes and he will be greatly missed.

Tony Bramwell played many roles alongside the Beatles including serving as producer for the promotional film for 'Strawberry Fields Forever' when spent two days dressing up a large tree in Knole Park to resemble "a piano and harp combined, with strings".

He was a regular figure at International Beatleweek and on tours of historic Beatles locations in Liverpool, including Strawberry Field. Here he is pictured at our gates in 2018 with Beatles tour guide Jackie Spencer during a 'Beatles Pilgrimage Tour'.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.

“The plan to open Strawberry Field to the public for the first time - so people can see a unique exhibition about the home, how and why the song was written by John, and allow visitors to explore the grounds as John did as a child - is very exciting.”
