Strawberry Field team shines at Comic Con

Adele and Chris (dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi at Comic Con Liverpool)
13th May, 2024

On the weekend before last, some of the Steps Team went to a galaxy far far away... on an exciting adventure to Comic Con Liverpool! Led by our dynamic duo, Adele and Chris, along with our enthusiastic trainees, our stall became the talk of the town.

We had Steps trainees from past and present come to selflessly dedicate their time by distributing leaflets and spreading the word about the Steps to Work programme to others who might benefit from our support. A special shout out to Amber Davies, our trainee from Cohort 12 (and now Strawberry Field colleague) who spent the day with Adele, volunteering her time and having some fantastic conversations about her own experience and outcome.

Our stall fast became a hub of excitement, offering information about upcoming cohorts, events, and opportunities. Darth Vader, Captain America and Deadpool offered some selfies and Spiderman put his name down for the next Cohort!

An absolute highlight was seeing Aaron from Cohort 8, who once lacked confidence and struggled in group settings. Fast forward three years after being on our programme, he is still in full-time paid work at Mustard Seed, learning to the drive and is more confident than ever with a new sense of purpose and achievement.  He said to the team  “I'm just really happy”.

But the fun didn't stop there. We had the honour of mingling with other local charities like Alder Hey and building new friendships with the team from the Roy Castle Charity. It was a heartwarming display of community spirit and collaboration. The team also noticed the celebration of acceptance – all differences being seen as unique and interesting and people fully able to be themselves and championed for it.

The organisers are already eager to have us back for the next event! It's clear that our presence made a galactic impact, raising awareness about the Steps to Work programme and leaving a trail of smiles in our wake.

And let's not forget the final highlight of the show: EDC Chris transforming into none other than Obi Wan Kenobi! The force was truly with us!

Hats off to our extraordinary team for making Comic Con Liverpool an unforgettable experience. Here's to many more adventures together!
