The Exhibition: Completing Liverpool’s Beatles Experience

2nd November, 2017

At the planned new exhibition at Strawberry Field Liverpool, visitors will enter a world where “nothing is real”…

The exciting new attraction will complement the other significant Liverpool Beatles attractions such as the award-winning Beatles Story, the Cavern Club and the Magical Mystery Tour. The site is set to become the final missing piece in the jigsaw that will now make the Beatles tourists’ visit to the city complete.

Visitors will find themselves immersed in the surreal and dreamlike atmosphere of Strawberry Fields Forever – the song inspired by this very place, which served as a refuge for John Lennon growing up at his Aunt Mimi’s house, just a stone’s throw away from the former children’s home. Stories of the house, the song and the young John Lennon playing in the grounds will come alive using the latest exhibition technologies.

The gardens, which will serve as a spiritual haven for reflection, will be filled with messages of peace and love that will inspire visitors, as Lennon himself was inspired.

Every year, over 60,000 people stop by the closed iconic red gates and wonder what lies beyond. Now they will at long last be able to enter and explore and find answers to their many questions. What was it inside that gave the young John Lennon such happy times? Years later, when Lennon was missing his childhood city, why was it that it was Strawberry Field that came to mind? Is it pure coincidence that John spent his last years living in a building that so closely resembles Strawberry Field?

Tour operators around the world are excited about Liverpool as a destination but have often remarked that they wish that there was even more for a Beatles tourist to do in the city. The visitor centre at Strawberry Field will make that wish a reality.

"It’s a wonderful idea that The Salvation Army is going to cultivate youngsters in the precious soil of Strawberry Field."

Julia Baird, Honorary President
